Jane Franklin Hall

Jane Franklin Hall was the University of Tasmania’s women’s residential college, founded in 1950. I greatly enjoyed researching and writing this book. Many of my friends attended Jane, and I loved talking to them and other former students. 

This was not a dramatic history, but it was very enjoyable, writing about the changes in attitude to colleges, to students, and to life generally. Lots of fabulous photos here, with the various student pranks and the photogenic grounds. 

A great pleasure was meeting one of the early principals, Ruth Fleming, who visited from England and was able to tell me about the early years in the 1950s.
