You’re in Roo country

This was another book, like the Zinc Works, where I was abysmally ignorant about the topic. In fact, I did so badly at the interview they asked me if I was football literate. I should have said no, but I liked them so much I claimed I was. I soon learned, anyhow, and I still love a football game.

What a wonderful club! Marvellous people, fabulous stories, great sense of humour, and morning and afternoon teas out of this world, when I interviewed people. Several times I found myself forced to go back to check up on facts. They were all so devoted to the club, such hard-working volunteers, that I felt embarrassed taking their money, and only asked for a low pay. It didn’t matter. I had a marvellous time. Like people from Glenorchy and the Zinc Works, they called a spade a spade. ‘Well, Blair’, said the president, at a player’s farewell, ‘I’m presenting you with this photo of yourself playing for the Club.’ He looked at it. ‘And it wasn’t taken yesterday!’
